Euskadi get surprise Alentejo call-up

Due to a Russian team pulling out, the Euskadi team has gotten a surprise invite to the upcoming Volta ao Alentejo.

The Lokosphinx outfit has decided to pull its team from the Portuguese five-day 2.2-event due to what the organizers call "regulatory issues" with the UCI, reports BiciCiclismo. In comes the Fundación Euskadi's Continental team with a youthful eight-man team looking to equal or better last year's three top five finishes courtesy of current Euskaltel sprinter Jon Aberasturi.

To get his team into the race, Miguel Madariaga allegedly had to pay the neat sum of 2300 euros to the organizers, according to Gara.

The race runs from Wednesday the 20th through Sunday the 24th.

Line-up: Igor Merino, Carlos Barbero, Illart Zuazubiskar, Jon Larrinaga, Unai Iparragirre, Aritz Bagües, Mikel Bizkarra, Mikel Aristi.
