Intxausti doubtful for País Vasco

One of the biggest outsiders for the overall crown at the upcoming Vuelta al País Vasco might be forced out of the event. Beñat Inxtausti is struggling with fever and flu-like symptoms and hasn't trained for 11 days, Deia reports this morning.

The former Euskaltel prodigy, third in the 2010 edition and fourth in 2011, hasn't been out on the bike since completing the Tirreno-Adriatico, and is almost certain to miss his home race. The 26-year-old will have a medical check-up today, but is unlikely to line up on Monday in Güeñes no matter the outcome.

His absence will come as another tough blow for his team, as leader Alejandro Valverde is also expected to miss out due to illness.
