Rubén Pérez 2nd in ENECO

Rubén Pérez came oh so close to taking his second win of the year. The speedster finished an impressive second in today's fifth stage of the ENECO Tour, winning the sprint for the second step on the podium some four seconds adrift of late-race attacker Jack Bobridge. The precocious Bobridge attacked his day-long breakaway companions with just two clicks to go, and, despite the efforts of Milram's Nerz, quickly got a gap which he maintained to the line. As anticipated, Rubén out-kicked the other remnants of the break for second, but it was mere consolation for the man from Zaldibar. "I'm pleased as I was finally feeling good again", he said post-race. "But I'm left with the feeling of what might have been. It could all have been different". The main peloton, of which Romain Sicard and the in-form Iñaki Isasi were a part of, rolled in 15 seconds back, while Jonathan Castroviejo was 37 seconds down, and Jorge Azanza, Gorka Izagirre and Miguel Minguez all more than 10 minutes adrift.
